ZoeCare began as a conversation between friends, and in the prayers of many. Several years ago, God placed a burden on my heart for women in desperate situations. While listening to the lyrics of the song “Fast Car” by Tracy Chapman, I began to think about women in Yankton, including those in my neighborhood, who found themselves in situations that left them feeling hopeless and lost. I started to pray that God would send women into my life who were in desperate need of help and the Good News of the Gospel. At the time, I did not know the answer would be a Pregnancy Resource Center. However, now, I can think of nothing better.
In the spring of 2019, a couple of friends and I attended a fundraiser for a pregnancy center in Orange City, Iowa. This event sparked conversations about the need for more pregnancy resources in Yankton. At first, I was hesitant to take on this project. I kept thinking, “Not me. Not now. I have four small children!” But the Holy Spirit was persistent and kept gently nudging my heart and whispering in my ear, “God has called you for such a time as this. He will go with you and supply all of your needs.” How could I resist an invitation like that?! From the moment I said “Yes” in my heart, God set his plan in motion.
God led a wonderful and diverse group of people to serve as the founding Board of Directors. We worked and prayed together as we chose a name for the pregnancy center, wrote vision and mission statements, applied for 501(c)(3) status, developed a logo, and found a location.
ZoeCare officially opened its doors and began serving women and families on July 15, 2020. Since that time, we have continued to expand our medical and supportive services. This has included opening a Women’s Health Clinic, along with the Resource Center, launching a mobile unit that serves a 90-mile radius around our center, and providing healthy relationship training for students at the local high schools through Go for the Gold.
As I reflect on the events that have taken place, a verse keeps coming to mind: Psalm 66:5 ”Come and see what God has done, His awesome deeds for mankind.” It is evident that God is the source of inspiration and the power behind this ministry. He will use me, the Board of Directors, and many supporters to be His hands and feet to spread hope to the women and families in our community and to build a culture of life!
Thank you for reading the ZoeCare story, but I want to invite you to do more than just read. Join us! Would you consider becoming a financial partner or volunteering? Come and see how God will use you to spread hope, support women who are struggling, and share the gospel with the lost so they may be found.
All for Jesus,
Rachel Jones, Founder/Executive Director
